Themons (pronounced: "thee-mon") are demons consisting out of different classes, each with a specific expertise in terms of abilities.
They are exclusive to the Sacrifices That Lived series, but the name itself is not acknowledged in it, with demons and humans both calling them "demons".
Most demons reside in an alternate universe, inside a demon realm of which the name cannot be pronounced or written down in any human language. Some reside in Hell, which appears to have closer ties to Earth in terms of universe.
After some of the stronger demons managed to escape and reach Earth, their escape routes lingered and grew, gradually allowing for more demons to follow behind and establish a large community alongside humanity. This led to the practise of creating "Sacrifices".
Demons have a human form and a "true form". Their human appearance is thanks to getting exposed to Earth's reality, which organically altered their bodies to take on this form and fit in to the best of their abilities. Their true form is always some kind of beastly or disturbing creature. Expectedly, demons don't have a human form to change into when not on Earth.
Mentioned races
The following races have been mentioned in the series:
Blood demon
Blood Demons are the most average, classic variant of demon out there. They're not remarkable in terms of power, but relatively respected as one of the oldest inhabitants of Hell. Having that said, they're not native to the demon realm where most demons reside, rather, what can be considered a Biblical afterlife.
They feed on blood, though can have meat as well. They tend to be physically appealing, with smooth skin, black horns, fangs, sharp nails, thin black tails, and red eyes. The healthier they are, the more vibrant the colour.
Their true form has them be taller, more muscular, with a slightly warped face, but there's otherwise not too much of a difference from their human appearance, which also makes them stand out in that sense.
Curse demon
Curse Demons can sense and grab control of anyone that exhibits behaviour relevant to their name, though the word "curse" applies to many subjects. It relates to the cursing of people, whether in the form of swearing at them or vengeful feelings, but also when practising witchcraft as a non-magic user or performing religious chants/prayer that request action from any god.
Concerning the latter two, it doesn't matter how sincere the target is, as to engage at all counts as casting a "spell", which then turns into a "curse", as no god actually exists. Spiritual practises count as pretend and therefore "disrespect the truth of nature".
It's mandatory for them to feed on souls if they wish to stay young and strong, though eating blood or meat is a good enough substitute that delays their decline. Eating a target's soul won't kill them, but will erase their morality and ability to reason. Curse Demons gain full control over their targets and can order them to do anything.
Their true form is a general, humanoid shape, with a misshapen face and two eerily small, amber-coloured beady eyes. Their body keeps morphing extra limbs or other features, and stringy manes droop down from their head and neck. They have at least two mouths at all times, the bottom one often breaking off and regrowing, the other closing itself up and reopening.
They have a short reptilian tail and multiple arms of differing lengths, though there's no consistency on how many at any given time. Their skin is milky white, though blackens when angered.
False god
False Gods are rare, ancient demons who thrive on being acknowledged, respected, and worshipped. Though they're capable of achieving this by taking on the role of a kind deity towards humans, and the powers they exhibit are expansive enough for them to play the role well, they remain demons at the end of the day; and look down on anyone who's weaker than themselves. They enjoy inflicting chaos and violence onto others and can only be killed by killing all who know of them and takes them in regard.
Their true form is often that of an animal, though larger and more beastly.
Trivia
- "Themon" is a combination of the word "theme" and "demon".
